This course will take you beyond basic stone masonry and into the realm of stonework as an art form.
A three-day intensive course where you will be taught about the qualities of natural stone while also learning about the creativity, flexibility and logic that sustains stone sculpture. We will be building a double faced stone wall, extension of the famous Phoenix Helix and reubld the cairn at is tail.
Class discussions will include the mathematical reasoning behind building an arch and the engineering of supports for a stone arch while under construction. While on site, we’ll build practice arches as we discuss stone types, wall form and structure.
Interests of class participants, including design decisions, will define the conversatons and context of our build.
